NTSC-U Release - SLUS-01427 - 26 November 2001
A collection of 12 classic Atari arcade games including Battlezone, Centipede, Crystal Castles, Gravitar, Millipede, Missile Command, Pong, Super Breakout, Tempest and Warlords and... ASTEROIDS! AND...ASTEROIDS DELUXE!!
The ASTEROIDS in this compilation is presented with an added bezel and also appears to have an increased screen resolution when compared to the ASTEROIDS included in Atari's Arcades Greatest Hits release however this may be due to the reduced game play screen size so that the bezel could be added. Either way, this version is more asthetically pleasing.
Also included are interviews with Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, Excerpts on Atari from the book "Phoenix: The Fall and Rise of Videogames" and a photo gallery of Atari memorabilia.

Wait just a large rock in space blasting minute... Isn't this a remake / re-imagining of asteroids and not the arcade original ?!
It certainly is, but at the loading screen when "Press Start" starts to flash, hold Select and press Circle, Circle, Circle, Triangle, Square, Square, Circle to unlock classic arcade... ASTEROIDS!
You can also beat the first 15 stages on level 1 in 1 player mode to unlock classic mode.

HOMEBREW
JUM'S ASTEROIDS EMULATOR (PSX version)
27 September 2000

Unfortunately, there are no fully working homebrew options for Asteroids on the Sony Playstation.
Jum's Asteroids Emulator (PSX Version) is close, but it's incomplete and no longer supported.
I did have a go at getting Jum's Asteroids emulator to run using ePSXe and mkpsxiso to create a .cue/.bin with the required arcade asteroids romset but I couldn't get it running. I also tried running the PSX .exe file directly in ePSXe and that didn't produce any results either.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THIS INFORMATION...
1. If you have a PS1 or PS2 and one of the games above, have a nostalgic
afternoon blatting away at wave after wave of Space Potatoes.
2. How about building a replica Asteroids arcade cabinet or table, powered using a PS1 or PS2?
3. Ignore the information here and continue living a happy life.

AND FINALLY...
Have I missed a PS1 Asteroids game? Probably... Leave me a comment and I'll add it to the list.
